Diagnostics

The type and extent of laboratory testing depends on a medical diagnosis. Because physical symptoms can sometimes be vague, multiple and varied tests may be necessary to help determine the cause of symptoms. A chemistry profile is a common diagnostic method performed to determine current health status and to rule out potential disorders.

Hormone Levels

Hormone levels can be measured through blood tests to help evaluate endocrine function.

For example:

• Cortisol levels may be tested to determine adrenal hyperfunction or hypofunction.
• Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) levels may be tested to determine presence or absence of the specific hormone.
• Testosterone levels may be tested to detect an increase or decrease in total testosterone.
• A thyroid panel may be used to identify diseases associated with an increase or decrease of thyroid hormones.
